Service Date: April 20, 2018 Funeral Services will be held on Friday April 20, 2018, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 4816 7th Avenue. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the church for the Mass. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. James Cemetery. |

Michael P. Henkes, of Kenosha, was called home by our Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Froedtert South – Kenosha Hospital Campus, with his family by his side. He was 66 years old. Born in Minneapolis, MN on March 22, 1952, he was the son of the late Ralph C. and Jane E. (Ludwig) Henkes. Mike attended Racine Parochial Schools and was a graduate of Racine Park High School. He attended U.W.-Oshkosh and Gateway Technical College. He honorably served in the United States Air Force as an air base firefighter at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington State. On January 19, 1980, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Terri Lanctot. He was employed for 22 years with WE Energies as an Engineer at the Pleasant Prairie Power Plant. Previously, he spent 15 years as a spot welder with AMC. Michael was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and a former member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He also actively participated with the Knights of Columbus #973 and the St. Mary’s Wednesday Morning Men’s Group. Previously, Michael was greatly involved with the local Boy Scouts of America. He had a great knowledge of history; and especially loved exploring the history of Christianity. Michael was also a very talented and accomplished artist, especially in the style of oil painter Thomas Hart Benton. Michael could often be found spending his afternoons in his backyard, either painting a canvas or working on his vegetable garden with his grandsons. He enjoyed sitting outside having conversations with neighbors. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Terri Henkes; his three children, Michael C., Jonathan P. (Aimee) and Rachel Elizabeth Henkes; his three grandsons, Timothy, Alexander, and Nathaniel; his three brothers, James (Lori), Thomas (Carol) and Robert Henkes; his two sisters, Clare (David) Zbikowski and Jennifer (Paul) Popowski, along with many nieces and nephews; and his dear little canine friend and companion, Rex. The family would also like to extend special thanks to the nursing staff at the Critical Care Unit at Froedert South- Kenosha Hospital Campus for their exceptional care of Mike, especially Casey, Susette, Stacy, Angie, Brittney and Cathy. |
