Marvin D. “Marv” Cottingham, age 74 of Kenosha, died on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at United Hospital System – Kenosha Hospital Campus, with his loving family by his side.
Born on August 2, 1939 in Racine, he was the son of the late Marvin D. and Pauline (Cipov) Cottingham, Sr. He was a 1959 graduate from Chetek High School.
From August 3, 1956 until October 9, 1956, Marvin honorably served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman recruit.
On August 14, 1965 at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, WI, he was united in marriage to Gloria R. Michal.
For 37 years, he was employed in the engine department with AMC/Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 1997. American Motors Corporation sent Marvin to Bancock to help them with engine development. Previously, he was employed with Hamilton Beach and worked for the carnival where he met his wife, Gloria. Marvin was a professional Santa Claus for over 20 years. He met many children over the years at Gateway Café.
Marvin attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Kenosha County Sheriff Citizens Academy and U.A.W. Local #72. He enjoyed watching football and for many years, he coached the CYC Pee Wee Packer Football League. His passion and love was being outdoors, camping with friends, and being with his family; especially his grandkids who he absolutely adored. Marvin was proud of his life, his accomplishments, and the way he lived it. Many will remember him as being a very honest family man.
He is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Gloria Cottingham; his two daughters, Michelle (Uri) Samson of Chicago, IL and Dawn (Michael) Procter of Reedsburg, WI; and his four grandchildren, Emma, Samual, Addison and Arianna.
Marvin is further survived by his two sisters, Jeanann (Bill) Hughes of North Highlands, CA and Andrea (Ron) Boggess of New Auburn, WI and numerous nieces and nephews.
