Doris M. Grummitt, age 95, died peacefully on October 27, 2016 at Grande Prairie Health and Rehab Center, Pleasant Prairie. Doris was born on May 14, 1921 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Dagenais) Keefner. On October 26, 1946, Doris was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Grummitt. They lived in Chicago, IL until 1952 when they moved to Kenosha. Sadly, Chuck preceded Doris in death on June 25, 2010. They were an inseparable couple. Doris, fondly referred to as “Dorie”, devoted most of her life to raising their six children and enjoyed motherhood and family life. Her strong faith sustained her throughout her life and was something she happily shared with others. Doris was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Racine. She was also employed with Great Lakes Naval Station, American State Bank, Shepherds Ministries, and Balistrieri and Associates Physical Therapy. Doris was known to have a “green thumb.” Her flowers were exquisite and her fruit and vegetable gardens were bountiful. She was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club of Kenosha and also enjoyed sewing, baking, and many crafts. One of Doris’ favorite pastimes was telling stories of bygone days and reminiscing about life with her siblings and relatives. She had a wonderful sense of humor and endeared herself to everyone with her contagious laughter. She was so grateful and appreciative for everything and everybody. One of the things that made Doris happiest was when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members. Survivors include her children, a son, Chuck Grummitt of Gun Barrel City, TX; her four daughters, Marsha (Herb) Anderson of Scottsdale, AZ, Cindy (Pete) Flatebo of Grayslake, IL and Fountain Hills, AZ, Carrie (Ron) Schweighardt of Pembroke Pines, FL, and Janice Hollenbeck of Trabuco Canyon, CA; ten grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, Doris was preceded in death by a son, Tom Grummitt; three sisters, Ruth Viola, Grace Young, and Shirley Bonn; and two brothers, Harry Keefner and Leslie Keefner in infancy.
