Lucia Kristine Swanson, 74, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Thursday April 21, 2016 at Brookdale Kenosha, Kenosha, Wisconsin. Lucia was born April 6, 1942, in Davenport, Iowa, the only daughter of the late Frederick and Rachel (Brandicon) Swanson. Lucia graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. It was here that she met her husband, Joseph Arthur Swanson. They were married on August 21, 1965, and enjoyed fifty years together. Along with her love of family, Lucia was passionate about music, and this love of music permeated her life. She was a classically trained cellist, spending many years playing with the Racine Symphony Orchestra where she was also a dedicated board member. Lucia was a piano teacher for many years, served as children’s church choir director, sang in the church choir, and served as a docent for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra during her family’s many years in Wilmette, Illinois. Lucia loved entertaining and being surrounded by her dear friends and family with whom she shared her impeccably prepared food and surrounded all with the gift of her refined taste in music. Lucia is survived by her husband Joseph, her children, Jeffrey (Kelly) Swanson of Portland, Oregon and Ingrid (Peter) Phelan, and her granddaughters, Maeve (13) and Malin (11) of Glen Ridge, New Jersey. Her granddaughters brought her true joy and they will always remember their dearest “Mormor” for the special love, warmth and care she showered upon them.
