A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 5821 10th Avenue. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at the church for the Mass. Mildred “Millie” J. McDermott, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on March 7, 2016. She was 101 years old. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Pleasant Prairie, WI. The daughter of the late Arthur H. and Josephine (Osborn) Wilmot, she was born September 17, 1914, in Paonia, CO. She came to Kenosha as a child, attended local schools, and graduated in 1933 from Kenosha High School. On April 16, 1938, at St. James the Apostle Parish rectory, she wed Edgar B. McDermott. They made their home in Grand Rapids, Michigan and then Columbus, Ohio, returning to Kenosha in 1959. Edgar preceded her in death on June 24, 1992. Millie was a member a member of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. She was also a former Sweet Adeline, and an active member of the Kenosha Senior Chorus and the Senior Strings. Music and singing brought her much pleasure during her lifetime. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was a homemaker for most of her adult life. Survivors include her six children, Sharon (James) Luzar of Chapin, SC, and their 4 children, Jamie (Chuck) Shive, Jodie (Rick) Silva, John (Wendy) Luzar, and Jerry (Shannon) Luzar; Thomas (Mona) McDermott of Kenosha, and their 3 children, Angela (Erik) Schreier, Michael (Lindsey) McDermott, and Stephen McDermott; Brion (Patricia) McDermott, of Jacksonville, FLA, and their 2 children, Scott McDermott and Ryan (Shelley) McDermott; Laurel (Kurt) Harff, of Kenosha, and their son, Craig Harff; Mary Beth (Kenny) Kotwitz, of Simi Valley, CA, and their daughter, Kimberly Kotwitz; and Daniel (Maggie) McDermott, of Kenosha, and their 5 children, Danny (Maria Carlstedt) McDermott, Jenna (Tyler) Slaght, Joseph McDermott, Kevin (Sharon) Whyte, and Colleen Whyte. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Keegan, Kaitlyn, and Jillian Shive, Olivia, Ava, and Aaron Silva, Audrey and Annalise Luzar, Beila and Finley Luzar, Bowen and Brooklyn Shreier, Lillyana McDermott, and Cammy McDermott, and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her 6 siblings; Marjorie Schuelke, Eva Owsichek, Maxine Sawyer, Lois Barber, Arthur Wilmot, and Warren Wilmot. Millie’s family would especially like to thank the entire staff of Brookdale Assisted Living Center, and the staff of Hospice Alliance for their loving and attentive care. |
