Jane D. “Janie” Nelson, 88 of Kenosha, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Brookside Care Center. Born in Milwaukee on August 30, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Linda (Dahlke) Scheunemann. She grew up in Bay View and attended St. Lucas Elementary and was a graduate of Bay View High School. On May 1, 1948, Jane married the love of her life, Julian “Jay” Nelson at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church. They moved to Kenosha and joined the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church Parrish. For 23 years, she was employed with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. She was the Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Library/Learning Center. Janie, along with her husband, Jay performed music for the realm of ordinary people, dignitaries and celebrities. She had a fondness of libraries and she served as the president of the Kenosha Area Library Association and was active in the Friends of the Kenosha Public Library. She also was a member of the Danish Sisterhood Lodge #20 in Kenosha, past treasurer of the P.L.A.V. James Smelcer Ladies Chapter #34 and served as past chaplain of the VFW Junker-Ball Post #1865 Ladies Auxiliary. Jane is survived by her wonderful son, Terry (Barb Dumesic) Nelson of Kenosha; her lovely granddaughters, Sarah (Stephan) Malott of Boiling Springs, SC and Jennifer (Jimmie) Anderson of Kenosha; her beautiful great granddaughters, Rhylee, Reagan and Brooklyn and the twins, Jaelyn and Jianna; her dear sister, Jean May Pahlow of Rochester, MI; and many relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian “Jay” Nelson and her brother, Robert Scheunemann.
