Philip Frank Spallato, age 85 of Kenosha, died on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Grande Prairie, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Kenosha on November 24, 1928 to the late Filiberto and Maria (Fortugno) Spallato, who had immigrated here from Rota Greca, Cosenza, Italy.
During the Korean Conflict, Philip proudly served our country in the U.S. Army.
On June 14, 1958 in Kenosha, he married the love of his life, Antoinetta “Toni” Zappa.
He began working at the young age of 12 years old during the depression as a shoe shine boy for Torcaso’s Shoe Shop in Kenosha. For more than 20 years, he was employed by the American Brass, retiring in 1992. Prior to working at the Brass, Philip was employed as a milkman for Landgren’s Dairy in Kenosha.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Philip was a huge sports fan who had a great fondness for the Bears. He enjoyed making homemade wine and playing cards with family and friends. Above all, Philip loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who he always held close to his heart; especially his buddy, Trystan.
Philip is survived by his wife of 56 years, Toni; his three children, Mary (Bruce) Knoll of Pleasant Prairie, Ellen Spallato of Kenosha and Albert Spallato of Kenosha; his two grandchildren, Adam (Danielle) Knoll and Aaron (Jessica) Knoll; and his four great grandchildren, Trystan Knoll, Genevieve Knoll, Jaxson Knoll and Amy Lemay.
He is further survived by his brother, Anthony Spallato; his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Velia Zappa, Eselia Carnevale, Frank and Nina Alia, James and Frances Prevost, and Lara Zappa; many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Spallato; his sisters-in-law, Lottie, Sonja and Marie Spallato; his brothers-in-law, Joseph Carnevale and Franco Zappa; his father and mother-in-law Durante and Modesta Zappa; and his nephews, Jonathan Aiello, Joshua Resch and Frank Alia.
Mr. Spallato’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Tucci and the nursing and CNA staff at Grande Prairie.
