Joanne E. Stroobosscher, 87, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Brookside Care Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Born at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Kenosha on September 12, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Katherine (Oakes) and Ernest Fredericksen. She was the oldest of seven and maintained a close relationship with her siblings. She was educated in Kenosha schools and in 1954, she married Gerald Stroobosscher at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church. During Gerald’s service in the US Army, they traveled across the country before returning to Kenosha, where they built a home and had two children, Diane and Linda. Joanne proudly stayed home to raise her daughters, volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader, and worked as a real estate agent. She then went on to own and manage multiple Kenosha properties as a landlady. She was a curious, creative person with many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed fishing up north at Castle Rock Lake, rummaging with family and friends, reading mystery novels, and making sweets like fudge, cookies, and her famous handmade popcorn balls. Joanne also enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors, caring for her many pets, playing cards with friends, and inviting loved ones to come in for a cup of coffee. Jo will be remembered for her sharp wit, generosity, and love of animals. She laughed easily and loved fully. Joanne will be missed by her daughters, Diane (Gary) Everett and Linda (Bjorn) Hanson; grandchildren, Sarah (Kyle) Czarnecki, Evan (Jennifer) Everett, Bergen (Colleen) Hanson, Siever (Madelyn Hirschuber) Hanson, and Annika Hanson; great-grandchildren, Lillee Everett, Nikolai Czarnecki, Scarlett Everett, and Alexei Czarnecki; sisters, Launette (Greg Vash) Carravetta and Leeann (Carl) Houlette; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Stroobosscher and siblings, William Porter, Janice DeMoulin, Barbara Carr, Kayleen Porter, Thomas Fredericksen and James Fredericksen. The family wants to extend a special thank you to the staff at Brookside for their loving and compassionate care of Joanne, as well as their kindness shown to her family throughout her time there. |
