Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation for John will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. |

John Leslie Hurst, age 84, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in Harker Heights, TX surrounded by his loving family. Born in Monroeville, AL on February 3, 1940, to Ishman and Everlyn (McCants) Hurst Sr. He attended Union High School in Monroeville, AL. He continued his education and received his Bachelor of Ministry degree from Milwaukee Theological Institute. On December 25, 1960, John was united in marriage to Annie Louise Richardson. Their union was blessed with 60 years of marriage. Annie preceded him in death on October 25, 2021. John was employed as an Oiler with J.I. Case, until his retirement in 1998. In addition, he was a Minister and member of Thomas Memorial A.M.E. Church until 2015. He enjoyed bowling in various leagues over the years and loved watching high school football games and working in the yard. John will be dearly missed by his children, Beverly Battle of Porterville, CA, Bobby Hurst of Kenosha, WI and Cynthia (Erwin) Anderson of Harker Heights, TX; his eight grandchildren; his thirteen great grandchildren; and his siblings, Gwendolyn Farmer of Zion, IL, Gayle Orr of Little Rock, AR and Remona Smith of Meridian, MS. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Annie Louise Hurst; his siblings, Nellie Smith, Mary Tuner, Ishman Hurst Jr., Cora Hawthorne, Bessie Love, Willie Hurst, Bobby Jean Hurst and Juanita Jones. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Denaija Battle, Demetric Battle, Mildred Chatman, Charles Chatman and Coleman Chapel Family for all their care and support given to John. In addition, the family would also like to thank the staff at Gentiva Hospice in Temple, TX for the compassionate, kind, and loving care they provided to John. |
