Anne C. Bergo, died February 27, 2015. Born January 30, 1922 in Prairie du Chien, WI, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gillitzer) Schoeffer. Having attended local schools, she graduated from Kenosha High School, received a two year certificate from the Department of Letters and Science and a BA from the University of Wisconsin. In November, 1945 she was united in marriage to John A. Bergo. After getting teaching credits from Carthage College, she taught English at Bradford High School for 21 years. Following that, she was elected to the Kenosha County Board where she served for 16 years. In 1977, she was named to the Governor’s Commission on the status of women. She was honored by receiving the Susan B. Anthony Award, the Women’s Horizons Founders Award and the Democrat of the Year Award. Memberships in local organizations, past and present include Neighborhood Housing, Public Welfare Board, American Association of University Women, Downtown Kiwanis, Kenosha County Retired Educators, Parkside Mycological Society, Women’s Life Association, Women’s Network, Board of Health, NOW, Archeological Society, and the Kenosha-Racine Community Action Agency Board. Anne loved working in and with the community. She is survived by two sons, John M. (Linda) Bergo of Kenosha, Thomas Bergo of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Alice (Donald Hang) Bergo of Houston, TX and brother, Phillip J. Schoeffer of Tomah,WI. Also surviving were seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was also grandmother to the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of the Herbrechtsmeier Family. Preceding her in death were her husband, John A. Bergo; a sister, Margaret Lamont; and two brothers, Frances and Bernard Schoeffer. It was Anne’s wish that her services be held privately. |
