Frederick “Fred” Tito Kauzrich

Frederick “Fred” Tito Kauzrich, of Rhinelander formerly of McNaughton passed away on Wednesday, February18, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family at the age of 88 years.

He was born in Elmira, MO on September 21, 1926, the son of John and Mary (Stimac) Kauzlarich. At the age of eighteen months, Fred’s mother passed away and he then was raised by his paternal grandparents in Numa, IA. Fred was a graduate of Numa High School.

He proudly served his country during WWII in the Merchant Marines in the Philippines from 1945 until 1946. Upon his discharge from the service, Fred attended Marquette University for two years pursuing dentistry.

At the age of 23, Fred was offered a chance to take over the family business. This was the beginning of his 46 year ownership of Freddie’s Bar. During this time, Fred was a member of the Wisconsin Tavern League, serving as President of the Kenosha Chapter. Fred and Fran retired up to McNaughton, WI where they owned a summer home since 1971. He proudly served as Commander of the Colin F. Shultz American Legion Post 318.

Fred’s love for his country and patriotism is part of his legacy. He participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC to see the WWII Memorial. This was an overwhelming experience that was dear to him. Fred was an avid hand ball player. His love for animals and the tranquility of the Northwoods was often a topic of conversation. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and engaging personality.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of thirty six years, Fran; six children, Thomas (Judy) Kauzrich of Kenosha, Fred Kauzrich of Kenosha, Ron Kauzrich of Kenosha, Patti (Randy Michael) Fafford of Kenosha, Kathy (Phillip) Reid of Kansasville and Kim (Greg) Graff of Monroe, MI; sixteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mamie (Vernon) Clark, and by a brother, Keith Kauzrich.
