January 19, 1927 - December 11, 2020 Service Date: December 22, 2020 SERVICE LOCATION Journey Church Funeral services honoring Mavis’s life will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Journey Church, 10700 75th Street, Kenosha WI. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. A visitation for Mavis will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Mavis Wakefield, 93 of Pleasant Prairie, WI passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Froedtert Hospital in Kenosha, WI following a short illness. Mavis was born on January 19, 1927 in Greenwood Springs, MS. She moved from Hamilton, MS to Kenosha, WI. In 1951, she worked at the Racine County Home as a Practical Nurse, then at Glazers Sewing Factory as President of the Union, then worked and retired from American Motors as a Stewart and member of the UAW-Local 72. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, and she was a member of the Journey Church in Kenosha, WI for 60 years where she taught Sunday School for 30 years. Marvis married Leonard E. Wakefield in 1943 in Mississippi and he preceded her in death in 1993. Also, her son Gene Wakefield in 2012 and grandson Matt Wakefield in 2012. She is survived by 1 child, Linda (Bill) Carpenter, daughter-in-law, Kathy Wakefield; eight grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) Carpenter, Marie (Steve) Janiak, Laura Wakefield, Christine (Scotty) Wallent, eight great-grandchildren, Brianna Carpenter, Megan Janiak, Andrea Wallent, Lindsey (Angel) Torres, Nick Carpenter, Josh Janiak, Rebeccca Wallent and Samantha Wallent.
