Jane M. (Baumgart) Christman, age 87 of Kenosha, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Home Inspired Senior Living. Born in Oconto, WI on May 3, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Mabel (Bigelow) George. She graduated from Marinette Teacher’s College and later Carthage College with cum laude honors. Jane met the love of her life, Ronald J. Christman at the Tommy Store. August 2, 1958, they were united in marriage at St. Patrick’s Church in Stiles WI. They moved to Kenosha in 1960, making it their new home fulfilling new teaching positions. Jane’s passion was teaching elementary school students with the Kenosha Unified School District. Jane taught at Durkee and Roosevelt Elementary schools for 28 years. Upon retiring, she taught 7 years at Jeffrey Elementary. For 17 years, Jane and her husband, Ron owned and operated Christman’s Custard on Sheridan Road, and the Roosevelt Road Boy Blue enjoying careers in custard! After retiring and selling the businesses, Jane and Ron spent their “golden years” living in Clear Water, FL. Jane enjoyed walking, and putting on fashion shows at the Serendipity Park. Jane was also featured in the Kenosha News as one of the “best dressed” teachers of the Kenosha Unified School District. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Jane enjoyed gardening, traveling with her family during the summer. She also loved entertaining (sometimes poolside) and playing croquet at family gatherings. Dining with friends and family at House of Gerhard’s, spending time with grandchildren and was an original fashionista. Jane is survived by her husband, Ron; her three daughters, Andrea (Paul) Weisner, Cheryl Christman and Allyson Tranberg; her sister, Betty Leigh; nine grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Baumgart; a son, Jeffery Baumgart; her brothers, Lawrence George, Jack Olson, Robert Lucas, Jr. and Wally Lucas; her sisters, Ruby Larson, Ruth Matravers Vivian Durand and a grandson, Jacob Christman. Jane’s family would like to thank Dr. Wendel Friedl, the staff of Home Inspired and Hospice Alliance, Inc. for the tender care she received. |
