Henny M. Froland

Henny M. Froland, age 95, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2018 at Hospice Alliance/Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Born in Dale, Norway on March 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Sigurd “Einar” and Martha (Berg) Nytveit. She attended schools in Norway including beautician school.

On December 4, 1943 in Bergen, Norway, she married her true love, Birger Froland. Birger came to the United States six months before his family, so they would be settled in after their move.  They raised their children in Door County, WI and lived in Colorado and Kenosha, WI.

From 1962 until 1976, while living in Door County, Henny and Birger owned and operated the Scandia Supper Club and they were founding members of Sons of Norway.

Henny loved to cook, play cribbage and spend time with her family and friends. She always had a zest for life and had fun.  In her younger days, she enjoyed cross country skiing.

Henny is survived by her children, Vickie (Dave) Thomas, Marianne Froland and Birger Froland, Jr.; her sister in Norway, Petra Berdal; and her grandchildren, Erik (Pauline) Leist, Kim (Orv) Kugler, Kurt (Denise) Leist, Shawn (Suzy) Carmody, Jackie (Scott) Niles, Doug (Jodi) Thomas and Torrie (Brian) Knuth.

She is further survived by her great grandchildren, Brooke (Andy) Tanck, Cody (Ashley) Leist, Jenna Kugler, Kelly (Amber) Carmody, Connor Carmody, Nicholas Birger (Emily) Niles, Zachary Niles, Alyssa Niles, Allison (Cody) Hudson, Katelyn (Jesse) Hoff, Madison Leist, Hannah Thomas, Liam Thomas, Cora Thomas, Hayden Knuth and Greyson Knuth; and her great-great grandchildren, Drew Tanck, Bo Tanck, Lauren Tanck, Shane Leist, Everett Leist, Emmalynn Carmody, Kinzington Hudson and Steven Scott Niles.

In addition to her parents, Henny was preceded in death by her husband, Birger Froland on January 26, 2004; her daughter, Sylvia Huss; her brother, Nils Sigurd Nytveit; and her great grandson, Spencer Leist.

Hospice Alliance’s Hospice House provided exceptional end of life care to Henny. Her family will forever be grateful.
