After an extended illness; Virginia C. Gombar, went to God on her 87th birthday, November 9, 2018, at Hospice Alliance’s Hospice House of Pleasant Prairie. Born in Kenosha on November 9, 1931, Virginia was one of six children of Leo and Amy (Antes) Plutchak. She was a Mary D. Bradford High School graduate and lifelong resident of Kenosha. On January 20, 1951, Virginia married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Jacob Gombar, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Kenosha. She continued to call St. Anthony Parish her church home and was a lifelong member of the St. Anthony’s Rosary Society. For 24 years, she was employed by the Kenosha Unified School District as a secretary. She celebrated her retirement in September of 1988. Virginia spent her life making people happy by giving generously of her time and talents. Having married a Slovak, she quickly learned to bake Slovak pastries to the enjoyment of many family and friends. Besides being an accomplished baker of cookies and pies, Virginia enjoyed teaching the baking art to her daughter and granddaughters, cooking, and spending quality time with her family, especially her eight grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Jacob; daughter, Karen H. Clair; two sons: Michael J. (Monica) Gombar and James M. (Peggy) Gombar; eight grandchildren: Rachel (Kat) Clair and Kevin (Andrea) Clair, Melissa (Daniel Nicolalde) Gombar, Meredith (Brent) Fickes and Michaela Gombar, Katie (Nick) Van Asten, Jacklyn (Andy) Kordasiewicz, and Kristen Gombar; and six great grandchildren: Sawyer, Morgan, Colton, Audrey, Marcus and Baby Girl Nicolalde Gombar due in January, 2019. Also left to comfort himself with his memories of Virginia is her loving brother, William (Nancy) Plutchak. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Leo Plutchak, Jr. and Raymond Plutchak; and her sisters: Helen Jones and Rosemary Walker.
