Born in Chicago, IL on April 4, 1927, to the late William Russell and Margaret Elizabeth (Nicol) Bailey, Sr.
Bill proudly served his country in World War II as a Seaman Second Class with the United States Navy.
On September 17, 1955, in Chicago, IL Bill was united in marriage to Virginia Kaye (Bailey). She preceded him in death on July 21, 2006.
He was employed as a salesperson for 35 years with MPO Videotronics in Chicago, IL.
Bill was a member of Liberty Community Church.
Bill loved God and was always grateful for the difference Jesus made in his life. Knowing the difference Jesus made in his own life, he faithfully prayed for his children and grandchildren, missionaries, friends, and neighbors. He lived out his love and gratitude by faithfully serving others: not only his family, but international students and servicemen from Great Lakes Naval Academy; inviting them over to his home for holiday dinners. He also enjoyed participating in a variety of ministries: Open Air Campaigners, Pacific Garden Mission, Gideons, and many ministries within the church such as providing transportation for young adults with cognitive disabilities and participating in the church’s recording ministries. Bill was a friendly and welcoming presence whether in church, stopping for gas or waiting in line at the grocery store. He also enjoyed flying single engine planes, all things electronic, photography, his pets and eating a good steak.
Bill will be greatly missed by his children, Becky J. Bailey, David M. Bailey, Robin L. Bond, Jeffrey T. Bailey, Mia J. Allison, Amanda W. Cohen, Melissa A. Valenti, Joel P. Bailey, Emily D. Peters and Joshua Carey.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Virginia.
