Born in Kenosha on October 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Ambrose) Zabukovec. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, she attended local schools and was a graduate of Kenosha High School.
In 1937, she was united in marriage to Phillip Hartnell. That marriage was later dissolved before she married Herman Zuehlsdorf on July 5, 1957, he preceded her in death in 1985.
Virginia was employed with Kenosha Unified School District as an instructional aide while also working for Memory Lane Antiques.
Virginia was a former member of the Kenosha Education Association and the Kenosha County Girl Scout Council. She was a current member of S.N.B.S. Lodge #584 and enjoyed spending her spare time reading, making cross stitch and completing crossword puzzles.
She will be deeply missed by her five children: Ronald (Karla), Robert (Barbara) and John (Eileen) Hartnell, Mary (James) Larrabee and Gretchen (Jeffery) Ley; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, Virginia was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Jr., Pvt. Robert and Walter Zabukovec, who passed in infancy.
Service Date July 22, 2016
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Avenue. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
