She was born in Kenosha on August 31, 1918, and was the daughter of the late Christopher and Margaret (Frederick) Metten.
On January 27, 1940 at St. George Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Leonard Horne. After 64 years of marriage, Leonard preceded her in death.
Viola loved to cook and her recipes have been passed down through the generations. She was loving and nurturing always placing others before herself. The Northwoods was one of her favorite places. She was a very competitive card player and never missed Bingo. Her sense of humor and stories will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her three children, Dennis (Hede) Horne, Dean (Maxie) Horne and Michelle (Gerry Hackbarth) Cappelletti; her brother, Clarence Metten; her five grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Horne, Dirk (Andrea) Horne, Deana (Brian) Balli, Stacy Strickland and Steffany Caputo and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Leonard, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Charles “Tubby” Metten; her sisters, Blanche and Rose; her son-in-law, George Cappelletti and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Horne.
A special thank you to the 2E staff, activities and rehab departments at Ridgewood for their loving care to Viola and her family.
