Born in Terebien, Poland on May 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Anna (Tichonezuk) Kirykowicz. As a young woman, in the early 1950’s, she came to the United States and made our area her new home.
On April 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to John Szafranski. After 45 years together, John preceded her in death on April 18, 1999.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Church. Vera was very active and loved to sew and crochet. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and entertaining her wonderful family.
Vera is survived by her son, Stan (Linda) Safranski of McHenry, IL; her three daughters, Olga (Henry) Gerad of Lima, OH, Lydia (John) Dudley of Kenosha and Anna Weaver of Pewaukee; her five grandchildren, Scott (Shannon) Lindstrom, Tara Rielly, Jason Dudley, Lauren Dudley and April Szafranski; four great grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Nadia Szafranski.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Walter Szafranski; and three brothers, Alexander, Roman and John.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to home caregiver, Sharon; and Kim and Pat of Hospice Alliance, Inc., for the extraordinary love and care they gave Vera.

Service Date August 25, 2014
Funeral Services will begin on Monday, August 25, 2014 with a prayer service at 9:15 a.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church, 4313 18th Avenue. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Cemetery.
