Born on September 14, 1937, he was the son of Peter Maurer and Daisy (Thilges) Maurer. He was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School.
On May 30, 1964, Thomas was united in marriage to Veronica Zalubowski at St. James Catholic Church. For over 56 years, they built a beautiful marriage and raised four children.
Thomas was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church in Racine, WI.
Thomas had a tremendous work ethic. As a young teenager, Thomas began working for his father at the Maurer Feed Company. His parents then founded Maurer Lawn and Garden Center and Floral Shoppe. He continued his parent’s legacy by later owning and operating that same business with his wife, Veronica.
Thomas had a strong commitment to serving and to helping others. He served as the Chairperson of The Village of Somers Park Committee. He was a volunteer for the Field of Dreams Community Garden, which served to feed those in need. Thomas also served his country as a member of the US Army Reserve.
Thomas stayed busy in his free time working on home projects and restoring and repairing lawn mowers and other small equipment. He was passionate about John Deere tractors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Nothing meant more to Thomas than his marriage and his family. He and Veronica had a model marriage that their children and grandchildren can only hope to emulate. They were inseparable and always supportive of one another. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. His warm loving personality will forever live on through his family.
Thomas is survived by his children, Matthew (Nicole) Maurer, Aimee (Michael) Suyko, Katie (Mitch) Liggett and Steven (Amy) Maurer; his grandchildren, Megan, Ashley and Hannah Maurer, Ainslie, Parker and Colin Suyko, Owen and Max Liggett, Mackenzie-Kay Maurer and Brennan Huff.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his dear wife, Veronica Maurer and his two brothers, N. Peter Maurer and Jerome Maurer.
A heartfelt note of appreciation from our family to the staff of Library Terrace Assisted Living and Legacy Hospice for all of their compassionate care and support given in Tom’s time of need.
Memorial services honoring Thomas’ life will be held privately.
