Born in Kenosha, WI on April 7, 1928, he was the son of the late Ignac and Mary (Lesjak) Schantek. He attended local schools and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
Steve was employed with the City of Kenosha Parks Department as a supervisor of the Kenosha pools and beaches. On June 23, 1955, Steve was awarded the Certificate of Distinguished Service for his act of heroism at Simmons Island Park Beach where he rescued two young girls from drowning in Lake Michigan.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, cooking and socializing; but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Steve will be missed by his children, Amy (Todd) Kehl and Chris (Shannon Anderson) Schantek; his grandson, Eric Repka and his great grandchildren, Tyler and Cole Repka.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents Ignac and Mary and his siblings, Rudy Schantek, Fred Schantek and Helen Gay-Vasil.

Service Date February 2, 2024
Memorial services honoring Steve’s life will be held privately in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
