Shirley was born on July 22, 1941, to the late Joseph Merlo and Florence “Babe” Merlo-Saveljec.
On June 7, 1980, Shirley married the love of her life, Paul J Barrette.
Her passion was her family and friends. Her kitchen was where everyone gathered for coffee and conversation. Shirley also spent many late nights playing “Yahtzee” with her close friends, Judy Nelsen and Kathy Christman.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Paul; her children, Dogan (Irma) Gregory, Jr., Debra Gregory-Pharr, Tamara Gregory, Tracy (Shawn) Haas, Jerry Barrette, John (Karen) Barrette, Paul (Linda) Barrette, Patrick (Dianne) Barrette, Jim (Sherri) Barrette and Joe (Tammy) Barrette as well as 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Josephine Smothers, Claudette (Sherlin) Smith and Joseph (Sandy) Merlo.

Service Date November 3, 2016
A Memorial Service honoring Shirley’s life will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Avenue. Private inurnment will take place in All Saints Cemetery.
