Born in St. Louis, MO on April 5, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (Osborne) Breuer. She attended schools in St. Louis including the University of St. Louis. Shirley came to Kenosha from St. Louis in 1946 and attended Gateway Technical College.
In 1946, she was united in marriage to John J. Gray, Sr. Their marriage was later dissolved.
Shirley was employed with the State of Wisconsin for ten years. She was an administrative assistant with the Wisconsin W.I.C. program.
She was a founding member of the Kenosha Women’s Pool League. In addition to playing pool, she enjoyed dart ball and bingo. Nothing could compare to the unconditional love she had for her family.
She is survived by her nine children, John J. (Vickey) Gray, Jr., Suzanne (Richard) Sellers, Peter Gray, Robin (Michael) Petrelli, Patricia Gray, Patrick Gray, Daniel (Wendy) Gray, Heather Gray and Terrance (Kathy) Priest; 28 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, John; she was preceded in death by two sons at birth, Peter and Robert Gray; two daughters, Mary Stone and Kathleen Bloom; and her siblings, Robert and Donald Breuer, and Jean Stanley.
The family would like to thank Hospice Alliance, Inc. and Niki at I Care for the compassionate care they provided.
Service Date February 24, 2018
Funeral services celebrating Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 2224 30th Ave. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at church for the Mass. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
