Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintSalonia O.”Sal” Grimes, age 90, of Kenosha, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 4, 2016, at United Hospital Systems-Kenosha Campus.
Born on August 27, 1925, in Elberton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Salonie (Moon) Webb. She attended elementary school in Atlanta and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington H.S. Salonia continued her education while working with the U.S. Navy.
A civilian employee of the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes, IL, she worked as a Budget Analyst for twenty reserve centers and retired in 1985 as a GS-9 following 30 years of service. While in civil service, she served as an EEO Rep.
Her community and her faith were extremely important to her. She was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church and served her church on the trustee board and as the financial secretary for several years. She was a long standing board member and served as president of the R.S.V.P. program in Kenosha County. She was the founder of the Ethnic Elders program in Kenosha and served that program in many capacities throughout the years. Sal served as a commissioner with the Kenosha County Dept. of Aging, the advisory board of the Benefits Specialist Program and was a member of the Southeastern WI Area Agency on Aging advisory council and its board of directors. She was a board member of the Kenosha County Democratic Party and worked as a poll worker. She also served on the Public Welfare Committee of the Kenosha County Human Services board and as a bailiff in the Municipal Court of the City of Kenosha.
Sal volunteered many hours with the Kenosha Public Library, the Unified School System as a tutor, the Kenosha County Wellness Clinic, the Shalom Center, and the Salvation Army.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons; Jeffrey (Debra) and Kirk Grimes; six grandchildren, Justin (Lacasha), Shannon, Byron, Miesha, Olivia, and Kirk Grimes Jr.; and six great-grandchildren, Nakeeria, Cylie, Alyssa, Londyn, Laiyah, and Ace “AJ”.
Service Date April 12, 2016
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 3925 32nd Avenue. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Cemetery.
