Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintSally Kullberg Hirst, age 76, of Kenosha passed over quietly on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Hospice House of Pleasant Prairie with her family at her side.
Born in Rockford, IL, on October 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Elvera (Turnrose) Kullberg. Sally graduated from Rockford College with a Bachelor’s Degree and from University of Illinois with a Master’s Degree in Education.
On June 7, 1968 in Rockford, IL; she married David Hirst. They were blessed with three children in 46 years of marriage.
She is survived by her husband, David; two sons, Ken and Steve Hirst and a daughter, Deann (Mike) Mealey; her dear grandchildren, Laura and Michael Mealey, Alyssa Swanson, Steven, AnnMarie and Allison Hirst along with many nieces and nephews. Sally is further survived by her siblings, John (Kris) Kullburg, Judy Wilson, Betty Karceski and Mary (Ben) Garwood.
Along with her parents, Sally was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Parsons.
Sally taught for 28 years; 25 of those were at Gray M. Sanborn Elementary School in Palatine, IL, touching the lives of many students.
She was proud of her involvement in the Stephen Ministry program. She enjoyed volunteering at the Civil War Museum, and as a volunteer gardener for Keep Kenosha Beautiful. Her other interests included reading, sailing and traveling to many countries such as Israel, Egypt, China and Australia.
Service Date January 2, 2015
A memorial service in celebration of Sally’s life will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 919 60th Street, Kenosha, WI, 53140. Private inurnment will take place in Green Ridge Cemetery.
