Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintRespected civic and business leader, Roland S. “Mr. Mac” Macarra, age 90, of Kenosha, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at his residence.
Roland was born on November 10, 1927 in Kenosha, the son of Lino and Lida (Brunatti) Macarra, who both preceded him in death.
He was educated in the schools of Kenosha and was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School.
Roland served our country in the U.S. Army. He entered on February 15, 1946 and was honorably discharged on April 3, 1947. He was humble and proud to experience the Honor Flight along with his son Robert in June of 2013.
On August 4, 1951, Roland was united in marriage to Jeanette A. DiCello. She preceded him in death on November 13, 2013 after sixty-two years of marriage.
Roland was the proud owner of Mac’s Deli on 52nd St. which he took over from his father in 1963. Over the years he served as a mentor to many young men and women who had the privilege to work alongside him at Mac’s.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the Italian American Society, and the Roma Lodge. In 1996, Roland was recognized by the Italian Business and Professional Assoc. for his efforts in developing and enhancing the image of the Italian community.
Roland was a longtime member and supporter of St. Joseph High School Men’s Athletic Assoc. where he had served as president. He was proud to have been inducted into the Lancer Athletic Assoc. Hall of Fame in 1996. He had also served St. Joseph as a member of the schools Board of Trustees for several years.
Roland was a member of Kenosha Municipal Airport Commission in the early 80’s instrumental in facilitating the airport expansion as well as a board member of the Kenosha Rotary and involved in starting the Kenosha Rotary Softball Tournament.
He most enjoyed spending time with his many friends and family; he enjoyed the years he spent on the golf course and for the past few years the fellowship of the Festival Foods Heroes Café.
He is survived by his four children, Monica Macarra, Brian Macarra, Marsha Macarra, and Robert (Lisa) Macarra; his four grandchildren, Emily, Toni, Maria, and Andrew; his sister, Zoi (Dominic) Paielli, his devoted friend and caregiver, Henry Daszkiewicz and the many other caregivers who allowed Roland his sunset years at home.
The Macarra Family wants to express a special Thank You to Henry Daszkiewicz for his love, care and dedication to Roland.
Service Date July 30, 2018
Funeral services honoring Roland’s life will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church, 2224 30th Ave. Entombment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
