Recently We lost a dear friend and loved one. Bob Smuda, was a friend for over 50 yrs., and although we both attended Carthage College, I was a few years older than Bob so I didn't really get to know him until we had both graduated. We had mutual friends and through them we became more acquainted. We were even roommates on several different occasions during the 70's and 80's. I have been lucky to have had many good friends during my 76 yrs. and Bob was surely one of them. He was a bit of an introvert but not shy. He had a big heart and wonderful disposition. And seldom, if ever, had a bad word to say about anyone. He choose his career to help people, not to get rich. A more than admirable characteristic. I moved away 26 yrs. ago. We still kept in touch which wasn't that easy, because Bob was old school and refused to buy a cell phone or laptop. So most of our correspondence was snail mail or phone calls. I'll miss the occasional call or letter. Most letters contained a comic from that day's newspaper. (Bob favored "Pearls Before Swine"). For those who knew, and loved Bob, he leaves a big hole in our lives and will be missed greatly. May you rest in peace....I love you brother. p.s. As I'm sure Bob would've done I will not include my name.
