Born on August 9, 1933 in Racine, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Moriarty) Nixa.
On August 22, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Racine, she was united in marriage to Luigi Valeri.
For several years, Rita was employed in the family auto body shop business.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Rita was an avid reader, great listener, and always enjoyed all the “simple” things in life.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, Luigi Valeri; her three children, Margaret Valeri, Louis (Carmela) Valeri and Angela Valeri; her three grandchildren, Christina, Andrew (Yilian) and Michael Valeri; her brother, Joseph Nixa; her two sisters, Katherine and Paula; her two sisters-in-law, Anna Carlini and Jane Nixa; her special friend and caregiver, Anne Thraser; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Rita’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU staff of St. Catherine’s Medical Center for the loving care they provided.

Service Date July 16, 2014
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, beginning with a prayer service at 9:15 a.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2224 45th Street. Entombment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
