Richard was born October 16, 1925 to the late Paul J. and Monica V. (nee Waitkus) Walters in Chicago, Illinois.
Graduating Kelly High School in Chicago, Richard was drafted to serve in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Returning to Chicago he attended the University of Illinois Chicago. Always modern and up to date Richard found his way to California where he worked in the emerging electronics and technology industries as a computer programmer.
Retiring at 55, Richard returned to the Midwest to care for his aging parents until their deaths.
Richard enjoyed a long retirement traveling between his Pleasant Prairie and Florida homes. In addition, he served as an elected member of the Kenosha Unified School Board.
A lifelong athlete, from the time he lettered in swimming and football in high school, he kept his “six-pack” abs well into his 80’s. An avid Chicago Bears fan, he would share stories of attending games at Wrigley Field (pre Soldier Field days) with his father where they traveled by streetcar.
A confirmed bachelor, “Uncle Richie” was that favorite larger than life uncle who would take you on a shopping spree in his brand new Porsche.
He has been laid to rest with military honors at All Saints Mausoleum in Pleasant Prairie alongside his parents, sister Paulette C. Garin and her husband, Walter R. Garin. His other sister, Zita Liebmann, also predeceased him.
Richard is survived by his beloved niece, Paulette Garin, of Kenosha, Wisconsin and a nephew, Robert Liebmann, of Oak Lawn, Illinois, as well as many extended family members and friends.
His final requests were to be buried with the cremains of his pet dog, “Missy,” and his favorite golf club while Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” played in the background.
He will be truly missed. Rest In Peace Uncle Rich.
