A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was born on September 28, 1945 and was the son of the late Orville and Agnes (Richie) Messersmith. He attended local schools.
From 1962 until 1966, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Enterprise during the Vietnam War. Dick enjoyed his travels when he was in the service.
He was employed as a material handler with Ocean Spray from 1996 until his retirement in 2006. Previously, Dick was employed with OMC/Johnson Motors from 1966 until 1995.
Dick was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling to Vegas and investing in the stock market. Happy memories were made when Dick spent time with his buddies at “Cheers” (where everybody knew his name).
He will be missed by his brother, Terry (Gail) Messersmith of Kenosha and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Messersmith.
In accordance with Dick’s wishes, private funeral services will be held.
