Peter was born in Chatham, New York on August 8, 1925, the son of Peter and Grace Gross. He graduated as valedictorian of Chatham High School in 1943 and then went to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating with a degree in Chemistry in 1945. He proceeded to Yale and earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1949 while also teaching and doing chemical research.
In 1954 Peter was united in marriage to Linnea Signe Rosell in Detroit, MI. They moved to Riverside, IL in 1958. They raised their three children in Riverside where Peter remained until 2017, although his wife Linnea passed away in 2011. Peter moved to Pleasant Prairie, WI in 2018 where he resided at The Addison assisted living facility.
Peter worked at Nalco Chemical Company for 39 years and retired in 1987. He was extremely dedicated to his job and his family. After growing up in the depression he was committed to being able to provide for his family.
He will be greatly missed by his three children, Peter (Melissa) Gross, Linnea (Steve) Sinadinos, Sandy (Ted) Wood and his nine grandchildren. Peter would have welcomed a great grandson in May.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linnea Gross and his brother, Robert.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to The Addison where he made his home for the last three years. The compassionate care and attention paid to him during his stay, and their assistance during the last weeks of his life, were invaluable to his family.
Funeral services honoring Peter’s life will be held privately.
