Peter was born on April 15, 1923 to Rosaria and Michaelangelo Rizzo in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He was the youngest of nine children. He was educated in the Kenosha schools and was a lifelong resident of Kenosha until moving to the Heritage Assisted Living in Monona last year.
Peter was a veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theatre in the invasion of Okinawa. He participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2011 as tribute of his service.
In 1946, he married Edith Carbone at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on May 18th. Pete & Edith had 3 children, Pam (Don) Keating, Peter (Renee) Rizzo and Barbara (Jerry) McNamara.
He was employed at American Motors, retiring as a supervisor in 1982.
He was a member of the Italian American Club in Kenosha, V.F.W. Junker-Ball Post #1865, and the Holy Rosary Holy Name Society.
Pete was an avid gardener with an awesome green thumb, loved to travel, golf, fish and entertain. He was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. He and Edith spent many happy summers at their cabin in Wild Rose with family & friends. Pete was an amateur artist with considerable talent and left his family with many “Papacassos”. Family gatherings were especially important to him.
He is survived by the love of his life, Edie; his children; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Angelo, Louis, Nick, Frank, Manuel, Charles and John and his sister, Mary.
The family would like to thank all of the medical staff, assistants and care givers who have aided Peter through the years; he appreciated every one of you. Salute!
Service Date October 31, 2018
Funeral Services honoring Peter’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 2224 45th St. Interment with military honors will follow in St. George Cemetery.
