Born on September 15, 1939 in Rota Greca, in the Province of Cosenza, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Durante and Modestina (Provenzano) Zappa. She attended schools in Italy. In 1958, as a young woman, Nina moved to our area.
On May 21, 1960 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Frank Alia. Their union was blessed with five children.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and their Ladies Society. Nina was a talented cook and she could make anything. She enjoyed making crafts, knitting and ceramics. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
Nina is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Frank Alia; four children, Lorraine (Joseph) Richardson, Joseph (Jennifer) Alia, Frances (Robert) Sarkis and Anna Brantley; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her four sisters, Antionetta Spallato, Eselia Carnevale, Frances (James) Prevost and Venere “Lara” Zappa; a sister-in-law, Velia Zappa; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank Alia; a grandson, Jason Richardson; and a brother, Domenico Zappa.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Longo of University Hospital-Madison, Dr. Leonardo Montemurro and Hartland Hospice, for the special care and support that they were all given.
Service Date August 4, 2017
Funeral Services honoring Nina’s life will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017, beginning with a prayer service at 9:15 a.m. from the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Ave.,Kenosha, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery.
