Born in Kenosha on November 16, 1918, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Millie (Brooks) Krause. She attended Frank Elementary School and was a 1937 graduate of Kenosha High school.
On November 12, 1938, in Kenosha, she was united in marriage to Elmer R. Gitzlaff. Sadly, he preceded her in death on April 19, 1984.
Millie was a life member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member and past president of both the First United Methodist Women and the S.P.I. Class, the Kenosha Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 92, where she served her chapter as a past Worthy Matron. She was proud to be a member of the St. Mary’s Friendly Center and worked as a hostess at the Kenosha Senior Citizen Center.
When her children were young, she served as the President of the Roosevelt School PTA and served her community as a poll worker volunteer. Millie enjoyed reading, creating cross stitch, crocheting and knitting. She generously gave of her time and talent, knitting mittens and caps for children.
Survivors include her two sons, Robert K. Gitzlaff and James A. Gitzlaff; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Krause and best friend, Debra Gitzlaff.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, William Gitzlaff; her grandson, Mark Gitzlaff; three brothers, Martin W., Carl H., and Albert K. Krause; and her sister, Lavina J. McGonegle.
Service Date February 4, 2016
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 919-60th Street. Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
