Born on August 25, 1927 in Celina, OH, he was the son of the late Edward and Ruth (Hamilton) Van Tilburg. He attended schools in Ohio and after his military service, attended the DeVry Institute.
On July 2, 1949, Meredith was united in marriage to Gloria Brewer. They were blessed with five children and 65 years of marriage.
For 35 years, he was employed with Motorola in Chicago, retiring in 1989. In 1990, Meredith and Gloria retired to Kenosha. While living in Chicago, they were members of Grace United Methodist Church and later at Avondale Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee committee member.
Meredith volunteered his time coaching baseball at Horner Park in Chicago, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, photography and collecting model trains.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Gloria; his four children, Michael (Christine), James (Carmen), Thomas (fiancée Sue) and Kathy (Don) Walter; a sister, Sally (Frank) Botkin; eight grandchildren, John Jr., Adam (Deanna), Corey (Jackie), Samantha, Kyle, Katie, Richard and Michael; two step grandchildren, Kelly (Jay) and Erick (Jodie) and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Meredith was preceded in death by a son, John; three brothers, Dale, Vernon and Max and a sister, Lois Brown.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rade Milosevic, Chaplain Charlie Hansen and the entire staff of Hospice Alliance and Hospice House for their loving care.
Service Date June 7, 2015
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Ave., Kenosha, WI. Interment will be held in Swamp College Cemetery in Celina, OH.
