Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintMaurice W. “Moe” Zabel, age 86 of Kenosha, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Hospice Alliance/Hospice House, Pleasant Prairie.
He was born on August 17, 1930 in Minot, ND and was the son of the late Albert W. and Vesta (Helvey) Zabel. He was raised in and attended schools in Robbinsdale, MN, graduating in 1948. Moe also attended Macalester College in St. Paul, MN.
From 1947-1949, he served in the United States National Guard.
In October, 1948 in Sioux Falls, ND, he was united in marriage to Carol E. Rausch. After 58 years of marriage, Carol preceded him in death on September 17, 2007.
When living in MN, Moe held several jobs positions. In 1959, Moe and his family moved to Kenosha.
In 1974, Moe began his own business, the Lighthouse Studios. He retired in 1994. Prior to the Lighthouse Studios, Moe was employed with Gray Electric, Interstate Electric Supply, Northern Illinois Electric Supply and Yang’s Home Center.
He was a faithful member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, M.G.V. Harmonia German Chorus, Root River Boys Band, the Kenosha Senior Citizens Center and the Republican Party of Kenosha County.
While Moe was at the Kenosha Senior Citizen Center, he was introduced to the lovely Marjorie Jean Anthonsen. They were united in marriage on August 16, 2008.
Moe was a volunteer at the Kenosha Kemper Center and the Kenosha Rotary Golf Outing.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Anthonsen-Zabel; his children, Steve Zabel, Pamela (Ralph) Pontillo and Lori (James) Petkovic; his grandchildren, Jordana (Todd) Wolf, Tor Pontillo and Autumn (Tim) Stamos; and four great grandchildren.
Moe is further survived by his two step-sons, Roger (Debbie) Richards and Bradley (Joyce) Richards; and two step-grandchildren, David (Lauren) Richards and Elizabeth Richards.
Service Date June 27, 2017
Funeral Services honoring Moe’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Avenue.
