Marjorie Caroline Gunderson, age 94, of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday, Mach 17, 2015 at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints, in Racine.
Born in Kenosha on December 10, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Leata (Hartl) Clark. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas, Lincoln Junior High and the vocational school in Kenosha.
On September 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Russell Frank Gunderson at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 1988.
Marjorie was employed with Coopers/Jockey International for seven years. During World War II, while her husband was serving in the service, she was employed as an inspector of aircrafts at American Motors Corp. for two years. Following her husband while in the service and after the war, she and her husband moved to California where they lived for seven years, where they began their family with their first two children. In 1951, they moved back to Kenosha where they added three more children to complete their family. After all their children were in school, Marjorie went back to work for Wells Department Store.
She was a member of the Paul Herrick American Legion Auxiliary Post #21 for over 54 years, where she served as past President and also as Treasurer for over 20 years. She was a volunteer on all the auxiliary activities and also helped serve food at their Bingo nights. Marjorie was awarded a plaque from the American Legion County Council for preparing lunch on Law Day for 25 years feeding 80-100 children from the Kenosha schools. She was also a charter member of the LaSociete de Femme Cabane #410 of Kenosha, where she served as President six different times. In 1982, she was elected as Grande (State) Presidente of La Societe de Femme. She was a member of the Kenosha Senior Center where she volunteered for several years, she enjoyed playing bingo and cards and traveling with her husband.
Marjorie will be deeply missed by her four daughters, Suzanne Stuart, Kathleen (Jeffery) Bezotte, Beverlee Everts and Marianne Odom; 14 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; four sisters and four brothers.
Service Date March 20, 2015
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Piasecki Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Ave.,Kenosha, WI. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
