Madeline (Maddie) Haubrich, 88, of Kenosha, died on May 6, 2024 at her home.
Born on January 23, 1936 in Kenosha, WI, she was the daughter of the late Domineck and Angeline (Ciotti) DeAngelis. She attended Kenosha schools graduating from Bradford High School in 1953.
Upon graduation she went to work at American Motors in the planning department until 1956 when she went to work in the Trust Department of the then First National Bank.
In 1959, she married the late Ronald H. Haubrich. They had three children.
A letter complaining about insufficient bowling coverage impressed the then new publisher of the Kenosha News, Howard J. Brown, to contact her, encouraging her to come to work at the News. After months of prompting from Mr. Brown, she accepted a part-time position in the display advertising department. She was often heard to say she finally said yes just to get rid of him.
The part-time job led to a full-time position as Mr. Brown’s Secretary, a job she held for almost 35 years. She retired in 1998, but continued working for Mr. Brown and the News, again on a part-time basis until his death in 2011. She also worked as a part-time receptionist at Hair Unlimited Salon for 10 years leaving in 2016.
She had been a supporting member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She was a past member of St. Mark Christian Mothers and helped them develop their weekly Bingo game whose proceeds went to help St. Mark School.
Her Christmas cookies were particular favorites. But bowling was her passion. She was a member of the KWBA 600 Club bowling her first 600 (651) at age 66 followed by four others over the years. She continued bowling well into her 80s.
She is survived by her three children, Scott Haubrich of Kenosha, Tracey Shipman of Neenah and Todd (Grace) Haubrich of Jacksonville, NC; her four grandchildren, Michael and Chad Haubrich and Matthew and Samantha Shipman; her sister Sandra (Joseph) Bisciglia, her brother, Anthony DeAngelis of TX. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, especially her nieces Julie Ruhle and Rosemarie Berveiler. Her great nieces and nephews meant the world to her, especially her buddy, Jordan Bisciglia, and Evan and Natalie Berveiler and Aidan and Adaline Bisciglia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her significant other, Richard P. Hall; a brother, firefighter, Donald DeAngelis; her sister, Catherine (George) Ruhle; her sister-in-law, Judy DeAngelis; her nieces and Goddaughters, Karen Ruhle Peterson and Lisa DeAngelis, and nephews, Mark and Robert DeAngelis.
She would like to thank her wonderful doctor, Guiseppe Garretto, for the many years of care he provided.
Memorial services honoring Madeline’s life will be held privately.
