Born in Fond du lac, WI on June 14, 1934, he was the son of the late Albert and Irma (Daye) Leu. Lyle was a graduate of Westfield High School. After graduation, he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse, he continued his education earning his master’s degree from Winona State University.
From October 12, 1954 until August 23, 1956, Lyle proudly served as a Pvt-1 in the U.S. Army.
On June 6, 1964 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Lyle was united in marriage to Mary Weir. Lyle and Mary enjoyed 57 years of marriage where they embarked on many trips together upon Mary’s retirement. Some of those wonderful trips included New York, Arizona and Disneyworld. One highlight for Lyle was enjoying the luxury of a Packers Suite while watching the Packer Game.
Many referred to Lyle as Coach Leu. He was employed as a Physical Education Teacher/Football Coach from 1960 until 1989 for DeSoto School System, McKinley/Jefferson/Harvey and Frank Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and Bullen Middle School. During retirement, Lyle worked at Dairyland Greyhound Park as a greeter.
He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the Elks Club.
His early years he spent time on the golf league for Sunnyside Club, bowling with his wife in a couple’s league at Sheridan Lanes, fishing on Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River in Winona, MN. He enjoyed family drives on Sunday mornings after church along Lake Shore Drive and spending time outdoors whether it was cutting his lawn, tending to his flowers, or just sitting on the patio listening to the radio. Most recently, you could find him taking his scooter outside the Addison and cruising around the block. Lyle was an avid Brewers and Packers fan.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Leu; his daughters, Lisa (David) Leu Birch and Jenny (Jim) Leu Dascoli; his grandchildren, Emily (Jake) Birch Henning, Leah Birch and Josh Dascoli.
In addition to his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Leu and his in-laws, Hubert and Clymene (Parisey) Weir.
Thank you to the wonderful staff at The Addison of Pleasant Prairie, who tended to Lyle’s every need. We would also like to thank Hospice Alliance who assisted Lyle in his last days.
Funeral services honoring Lyle’s life were held privately.
