He was born on March 24, 1928 in Melrose Park, IL and was raised in Italy. Luigi was the son of the late Francesco and Margherita (Ciotti) Valeri.
On August 22, 1953 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Racine, he was united in marriage to Rita Nixa. Sadly, after nearly 61 years of marriage, Rita preceded him in death in 2014.
Luigi was employed with AMC/Chrysler Corporation for 30 years. He retired from the final repair department in 1979. Luigi co-founded Valeri Auto Body in Winthrop Harbor with his son, Louis. He later sold his share to his son and began Luigi’s Auto Body and Sales where he was still active until the time of his death.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Luigi was a hard worker and he liked to buy, repair and sell cars. He enjoyed spending time up north at the family cabin and fishing, boating, snowmobiling and cooking. His specialty was making Lasagna, sausage and homemade wine. Above all, he loved to be with his family.
He is survived by his three children, Margaret Valeri, Louis (Carmela) Valeri and Angela Valeri; his three grandchildren, Christina, Andrew (Yilian) and Michael Valeri; his sister, Anna Carlini; and four nieces and nephews, Filippo (Lucrezia) Carlini, Lisa (Brian) Skowronski, Maria Giovianna (Adolfo) Angelici and Nazareno (Maria Giovianna) Fratini.
Luigi’s family would like to thank Alicia for the exceptional loving care she provided.
