Born in Ironwood, Michigan, on June 13, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Draga (Marincic) Janov. Lorraine grew up knowing rich family heritage and was a devout member of the Catholic faith. She was educated in the schools of Michigan and also attended Gateway Technical College.
On September 11, 1948, Lorraine was united in marriage to John F. Lackovich. Shortly after they married, the couple moved to Racine in 1955. They were blessed with three children and 66 years of a happy and wonderful marriage.
After relocating to Racine, Lorraine continued to be a stay-at-home mom until her children began school. She went back to school to earn her secretarial degree and worked for the Wisconsin Natural Gas Company, until her retirement in 1992.
Following retirement, she and her husband moved to Sun City, AZ, to enjoy the warmth. There, they joined other family and friends from the Upper Michigan area. They came home every summer to be “out of the heat” and spend time with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
Lorraine was a loving mother who loved the children. She enjoyed being among the young ones to share in their enthusiastic zest for life. She stayed active with cross-country skiing, roller skating and dancing with the kids. At their cottage, she enjoyed swimming, hiking and long walks. Lorraine loved beautiful flowers, all about the yard. She was a voracious reader and always had the current best seller book at her side. Lorraine loved the challenge of working the crossword puzzles and usually started the day by finishing the one in the daily paper.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, John; their three children, Jane Gerlach, John (Rita) Lackovich, Jr; Peter (Kim Johnson) Lackovich and her grandchildren, whom she adored, Jennifer Garibay, Sarah Willkomm, David Gerlach, Michael Gerlach, Ashley Lackovich, Lauren Lackovich, Katie Lackovich; great grandchildren, Kristin, Leah and Brooke and two sisters, Mary-Ann and Bonnie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill and her grandson, Brett Lackovich.
The family would like to thank the staff of UHS-Kenosha Campus for their kindness and attentive watch over Lorraine during her last days in the hospital and also to the staff at Grande Prairie Health and Rehab Center for their attentive care during her rehabilitation.
