Lois was born on May 6, 1938, in Kenosha, WI, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha Hartnell. Lois graduated from Kenosha High School in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, James Schlichting, on September 7, 1957, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Lois was a devoted homemaker who found immense joy in caring for her family, especially watching her beloved grandchildren while their parents worked. She had a passion for baking, crocheting, crafting, and jigsaw puzzles, filling her home with warmth and creativity. Lois cherished her great-grandchildren, Evie and Finn, who brought endless light to her life. Together with her husband, Jim, she created countless cherished memories, hosting family picnics, parties, and birthday celebrations that will be fondly remembered by all who loved them.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Jeff) Sherman; son-in-law, Brett Schaefer; her grandchildren, Brett (Sally) Schaefer, Jennifer Kasparian, Andrew (Khamsao Yang) Schaefer, Jessica (Brandon) Phillips, Amanda (Jake) Zalokar, and Kate (Tyler Peterson) Sherman; and her great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Finley Phillips.
Lois is further survived by her siblings, Jan (Ken) Lock, David (Ellen) Schlichting, and Harold (Dolores) Schlichting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James; her son, James Joseph Schlichting; and her daughter, Laura Beth Schaefer.
A special thanks to her dear friend Sandy Wiercinski, her dedicated nephew, Craig Hartnell and to the staff at Library Terrace.
To honor Lois’s wishes, the family will be holding a private service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, cards and condolences may be sent to the family.
