A lifelong Kenosha County resident, she was born in New Muenster on January 16, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Edward and Louise (Vos) May.
On June 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Maurice Dunbar. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1990.
Julia was employed as an administrative secretary with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she was a dedicated church volunteer. Julia loved to golf and play bridge.
She is survived by her children, Maureen Streed, Thomas (Cynthia) Dunbar, Ellen Dunbar, William (Paulette) Dunbar, Jane (Thomas-Deceased) Otto and Joan (Scott) Stein; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ruth Horvat and Theresa McCarthy; her brother-in-law, William McCarthy; her sister-in-law, Joan May; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marise McCarthy; two brothers, Oswald May and Edward May, Jr.; her son-in-law, Thomas Otto; and many other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Service Date January 13, 2018
A Memorial Service honoring Julia’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 7300 Block of 39th Avenue. Private inurnment will take place in All Saints Mausoleum.
