Born in Kenosha on February 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William George and Olga Marie (Fredricksen) Ritter.
On January 1, 1950, Joyce was united in marriage to Herbert J. Gallatin in Kenosha. They were blessed with 30 years of marriage before Herbert passed away on August 6, 1980.
Joyce was an accomplished business woman. Carrying on the family business, she was the dedicated owner and operator of Ritter’s Bakery, which she expanded to include catering. In Florida, she opened a women’s apparel store, Joyce’s, that she ran for a short time, before selling the business.
She was a former member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie #1055 in Kenosha, the former Elks Lodge #750 in Kenosha and the Bakers Association. Joyce also selflessly volunteered her time at the Jupiter Hospital in Florida.
She had many hobbies and enjoyed swimming, boating, fishing, knitting, bowling, watching baseball and playing bingo. Joyce was very down to earth, had a great sense of humor and endless artistic abilities.
She will be remembered by her three children, Bonnie (John) Kreger, John (Jeannie) Gallatin and Susan (Martin) Wittenmeier; four grandchildren, John Gallatin, Jr., Janelle (Brian) Koren, Steven (Mary Ellen) Wittenmeier and Kelly Wittenmeier; and three great-grandchildren, Brady, Jacob and Kimberly Ann.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Marie Wittenmeier.
