Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintIt is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Michael Smith, a loving husband, devoted father, brother, Papa, and esteemed member of the Kenosha community. John was born to Glen and Betty (Fox) Smith on August 14, 1964, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he spent his life dedicated to serving others, both in his family and as a professional.
John’s journey on this earth came to a gentle close on March 24, 2025. He was surrounded by the love of his family as he took his final breaths, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication.
John was the family jokester, known for his caring nature and infectious laughter. He had a unique talent for turning routine moments into joyful memories, whether it was sharing a hearty meal that he expertly prepared or taking long rides on his beloved red Harley-Davidson Ultra Glide motorcycle. His solo journey to the Black Hills of South Dakota, where he skillfully navigated the switchbacks of Iron Mountain Road, was among the many adventures he cherished.
John’s creativity was evident in everything he did, turning simple materials into joyful creations, whether it was cooking for his children or playing Hot Wheels, card games, and building so many things with his grandson, and best buddy, Jaxon. He proudly played a significant role in the building of the Dream Playground in Kenosha, leaving a lasting legacy of joy for future generations.
In his professional life, John served with distinction as a Direct Supervision Officer and K9 Handler with Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department / KCDC. Upon retirement in 2021, he and Linda embraced a new chapter, dreaming of traveling the United States in their RV, where they planned to travel to different states to watch the NHRA races, camp, and explore the great outdoors.
John was renowned not only for his unwavering commitment to law enforcement, but also for his caring nature and profound love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Smith; his cherished daughters, Samantha (Peter) LeBron, Gabrielle (Nicholas) Ortega, and Cassidy Smith; his step-children, Tara (Justin) Paskiewicz, Adam Johnson, Amanda (Keith) Crump; and his grandchildren, Jaxon Paskiewicz, and Aliyah Ortega. John is further survived by his siblings, Karen Foster, James (Leigh) Smith, Judy (Carey) Harveycutter, and Tim (Wanda) Smith.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
John’s life touched many, and his spirit will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him. As we gather to honor him, let us carry forth the love he so freely gave, all the happy times and the strength he imparted to us all.
