Born on December 29, 1935, in Milwaukee, Joan was the daughter of the late August John “Gus” and Henrietta (Ward) Conrad. Her mother died when she was three years old. During her childhood, she lived in various parts of Wisconsin. The family later put down roots in Kenosha, where Joan graduated from Kenosha High School.
On February 25, 1956, at St. James Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Michael F. Dezoma Sr. Together, they raised a family which has continued to flourish throughout the years. Their marriage was a beautiful example of taking care of one another. Sadly, Mike preceded her in death on February 25, 2008.
Joan was a dedicated, devoted, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Besides serving her family as a loving homemaker for her whole life, she was later also employed by Triangle Appliance.
Joan was a beautiful Christian woman, and a true worshiper of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Journey Church, where she served in various capacities, including their benevolence committee and also prayer and Bible group. She was a true prayer warrior. Joan was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her generosity and kind heart will always remain an inspiration to her family and friends.
She enjoyed baking and cooking (especially her delicious raviolis). Above all, she absolutely loved her entire family, and all of her children and their spouses and grandchildren and great-grandchildren felt her love in so many practical ways. Everyone relished their times with grandma.
She was a very enthusiastic Green Bay Packer fan. (sorry guys, you’ll have to try to win it without her this year!)
Joan was a very creative person, and over the years, she enjoyed making various arts and crafts with family and friends. For many years, she has especially enjoyed making beautiful handmade personalized greeting cards, for her large family and multitude of friends. She was a member of two Red Hat Groups, and a member of a girl’s “club” – dating all the way back to high school which is still active – to this day. Other activities she liked to do included camping at the family cabin up north, and playing games around the family table, which was always a place of love and laughter.
Joan is survived by her four children, Cindy (Craig) Wendricks of Waterford, Susan Dezoma and husband Dean, of San Antonio TX, Michael F. (Christine) Dezoma, Jr., of Pleasant Prairie, and Mark (Judy) Dezoma of Waterford; her thirteen grandchildren, Terra Parsons, Jeremy Wendricks, Jonathan (Alycia) Davis, Rachel and Jordan Davis, Tonya (Sam) Sturino, Sr., Michael F. Dezoma III, David Kabelis, Katie (Douglas) Maher, Laura, Julie and Nancy Dezoma, and Anthony Boville; and her 8 great grandchildren, Jaydon, Ty, Austin, Alexis, Lydia, Abigail, Uriah, Sammy Jr and a great granddaughter on the way.
Joan is further survived by her three sisters, Dorothy Hunter, Montana, Arlene Alleman and Melody Bigalke, Kenosha; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Michael Dezoma, Sr., her son in infancy, Robert John; her parents; her step-mother; her brothers, Gerald Quarders and Richard Conrad; and her sister, Rosemary Kubokawa.
Joan’s family would like to thank Dr. Michael Zeihen, Hospice Alliance Inc., and all the other healthcare professionals for their compassion and loving care. They would also like to thank Joan’s special friends, neighbors, and prayer groups, for their continued love and support.
