Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintD. “Jim” James Long, Jr. age 84, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Froedtert Hospital-Milwaukee, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Chicago, IL on October 27, 1935, he was the son of the late Dennis and Dorothy (Keller) Long.
He proudly served his country in the Army Reserves as a Private 1st Class from 1957 until 1961.
On May 23, 1959, Jim was united in marriage to Rita Parkinson. For over 61 years, they built a beautiful marriage and raised two children.
Jim was a member of the Living Light Christian Church. He attended local schools in the Chicago area and was the President and News Editor for the Equestrian Association of Chicago and Norwood Promotion Horse Shows. He was an avid horse lover, loved to tell stories, make people laugh, spent time puttering on the farm and was handy at engineering.
He was employed with International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, many Chicagoland Theaters, several Local Delivery companies, and security for Camping World. He proudly owned and operated Pronto Farms for 40 years and owned Ardmore Manor Grocery Store in the early 1960’s. In 1948, his first job was a shoeshine boy, he also worked at Walgreens food counter and was a clerk for a hardware store.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rita Long; his children, Cynthia (Joseph) Michaelis and James (Sylvia) Long; his grandchildren, Steve (Jessica) Schuessler, Aron (Gabrielle) Schuessler, Elissa Jacqueline Long, Joseph (Jaimee) Michaelis III, Patrick Michaelis, Janette (Robert) Flores, Benjamin (Jessica) Michaelis, and Myles and Rita Michaelis; his great grandchildren, Jules, Indigo, Colette and Evelyn Michaelis, Nathaniel Belcher, Xavier and Lilyann Flores, Anna, James, Sarah, Clara, William, Liana and Brendan Schuessler.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his precious grandmother, Martha Keller; his in-laws, John and Rita Parkinson; his uncles, Edwin and Arthur Keller; his aunt; Alma Long and his sister-in-law, Barbara Parkinson
A special thanks to Dr. Lancaster and the nursing staff at Froedtert South-St. Catherine’s Hospital; the staff of Flight for Life along with Dr. Birdsall and staff at Froedtert Hospital-Milwaukee for their compassionate, kind, and loving care they provided Jim.
Service Date October 24, 2020
A Celebration of Life honoring Jim will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Living Light Christian Church, 6102 39th Avenue, Kenosha.
Private interment will take place in St. Casimir Cemetery.
A visitation for Jim will be held on Saturday, October 24th from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to Samaritan’s Purse, P. O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000 would be appreciated by the family.
