Born in Oak Park, IL, on September 29, 1945, he was the son of the late George and Gertrude (Meindl) Adams. James graduated from Central High School in West Allis, WI.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and made it his career; retiring in 1982.
On April 6, 1968 in Patuxent River, MD; James married Barbara L. Goodwin. They were blessed with three daughters and enjoyed 42 years of marriage together until Barbara passed away on September 20, 2010.
James was a member of St. Michael Episcopal Church in Racine, WI. A giving person of his time and talents, he was a Kenosha Mason –Unity Lodge #367 and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed the great outdoors through RV camping.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Christopher) Russell, Jerianne (Raymond) Closs and Jessica Mahon; thirteen grandchildren and his sisters, Loretta (Bruce) Smith, Joyce (Daniel) Williams and Shirley (Eric Johnson) Adams.
In addition to his parents and wife, Barbara, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Adams and two grandsons, Jonathon and Daniel Mears.

Service Date February 6, 2016
Funeral Services honoring James will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at the Piasecki Althaus Funeral Home, 3720 39th Ave., Kenosha, WI, with full military honors following. Private interment will be held in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
