James D. “Jim” Seymour, age 81, of Kenosha, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017, at his home.
Born in Kenosha on September 25, 1935, he was the son of the late Gordon A. and Marion (Johnston) Seymour. He attended Kenosha schools and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School.
He proudly served in the Navy Reserve.
On April 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Shirley Greenwald at First Presbyterian Church. They were blessed with two children and nearly 58 years of marriage.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, he joined his father in the family accounting practice. He passed the certified public accountant exam in 1964. He was a member of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He thoroughly enjoyed his work, but it was the people and relationships that he established over the years that he cherished the most. Jim retired in 2008, but would occasionally stop in at the office, even if it was just to say “hello.”
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and most recently St. Mary’s Lutheran Church. During his time at First Presbyterian Church, he served as an Elder as well as Christian Education Chairman, Senior High School Youth Group Advisor, and as a Sunday School Teacher.
Jim was a long time member of the Kenosha Rotary Club where he served on the board of directors and was a past president. He also enjoyed serving on the board of directors of the Kenosha County Cancer Society, Wisconsin Anti-Tuberculosis Society, the Kenosha Community Foundation, and the Protestant Youth Council, which later became the Christian Youth Council. Jim also enjoyed serving as a trustee for the Mary Frost Ashley Charitable Trust.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, gardening, landscaping, water-skiing, relaxing at his cabin in Three Lakes, and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and attending their school activities and sporting events.
Jim will be deeply missed by his wife, Shirley; their two children, Chris (Carol Nailor) Seymour and Steve (Linda) Seymour; five grandchildren, Allison Winzer, James Seymour, Scott Seymour, Daniel Seymour, and Annelise Seymour; his sisters, Janice (Dave) Hamelink and Nancy Covelli; his cousin, Joy Angeletti; sisters-in-law, Lynne Greenwald and Donna Van Winkle; nephews, nieces, and extended family members.
The family would like to thank Right At Home and all their caregivers, Aurora At Home, and all of the health care providers and workers who helped Jim along the way.
Service Date January 16, 2017
Funeral services honoring Jim’s life will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, 2001 – 80th Street. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Cemetery.
