Born on October 7, 1926, he was the son of the late Albert and Clara (Smith) Arneson. He attended St. James Grade School, graduated from Mary D Bradford High School and Marquette University School of Engineering.
At the age of 18, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in the Philippines, during World War II.
On June 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Patricia Cantwell at St James Catholic Church in Kenosha. After 62 years together, she preceded him in death on July 18, 2012.
Jim’s first career was spent serving as President of Arneson Foundry in Kenosha.
He was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church in Racine where he enjoyed volunteering in his earlier years at the parish festival. Jim had the privilege to serve as the Chairman of the Board at United Hospital System in Kenosha for 25 years; a position he held dear to his heart that allowed him to make new life-long friendships.
Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed his many years playing at the Kenosha Country Club, winning a number of club championships. Jim was also a 1954 Kenosha County Open champion, passing on the tradition to his son, Bill. Jim and Pat looked forward to their winter vacations in Naples, FL and taking seasonal trips to Door County. Many of these trips included all of the family, including their 50th Wedding Anniversary Alaskan Cruise.
Surviving Jim are his children Betsy (Jim) Schliesleder and Bob (Cindy) Arneson; his daughter-in-law, Pattie (Dolnik) Arneson; his grandchildren, Erin (Matt) Ginn, Dana (Dave) Ostrenga, Courtney and Grant Arneson; his great-grandchildren, Will Ginn, Charlie Ostrenga, Weston Ginn, and Emma Ostrenga; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded by a son, William J. Arneson; and his brother, John Arneson.
Jim’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Rick Schmidt, Carol Gammon, Dr. Mitchell Ziarko, Dr. Michael Kreager, the compassionate staff on 8 Palmer and all their many friends at United Hospital System, as well as the “angels” at Right at Home for the love and kindness they showed.
